Have you gotten your shots yet? Bedeutet: “Bist du schon geimpft worden?”

“Shots” in diesem Zusammenhang haben nichts mit Schüssen, sondern mit Spritzen, genauer gesagt, mit Impfungen zu tun. “Shots” gilt für Mensch und Tier (“My rabbits are getting their shots tomorrow”) und wird immer im Plural benutzt. Auch wenn es nur eine Impfung ist.

Der “korrekte” Begriff für das Impfen ist übrigens “vaccination” oder “innoculation“, allerdings ist das umgangssprachliche “getting my/your shots” gebräuchlicher.

Have you gotten your shots yet? Means, “Have you been vaccinated yet?”

“Shots” in this context have nothing to do with (gun) shots, but rather with injections, or more precisely, vaccinations. The term “shots” applies to humans and animals (“My rabbits are getting their shots tomorrow”) and is always used in the plural. Even if it’s just one vaccination.

The “correct” term for receiving a vaccine, by the way, is “vaccination” or “innoculation“, but the colloquial “getting my/your shots” is more common.
